"Inclusion" and Special Education
|
|
According to special education law, children with special needs are entitled to receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE). This was originally referred to as "mainstreaming" and is now sometimes called "integration" or "inclusion." This approach includes children with special needs in the regular classroom and gives them access to the general curriculum as much as possible.
|
Benefits of LRE Placement
- It has the potential to improve the education of special needs children
- It contributes to the education of all children
- It encourages the training of all educators
- It enlightens the public at large about the nature of disabilities and about students with disabilities
LRE applies to non-classroom activities and events such as such as extracurricular activities, recess, meal times, transportation, dances and spectator sports.
Private Placement
If you live in the Kansas City Metro area or elsewhere in Kansas or Missouri and have any questions concerning LRE, private placement, or anything else regarding your child's special education needs, please contact my law firm today for a free initial consultation with an experienced lawyer. I can help.
